Below FAQ are some common concerns of our clients before purchasing the theme, if you have other questions, please just send it to info@lithologie.ca

Those stones are also really fast to chill. It will takes you only 45 minutes in the freezer to get them at the right temperature (whereas for soap stones, it takes several hours). Second, they won't water down your whisky. They will also not affect the flavour of your brown spirits because their porosity is the lowest you can found on any stones (in between 0.2 to 1% of porosity). & Last thing, they are pretty hard stones which means they won't leave residues of stones in your whisky.

These 5 elements make them the perfect material for this particular product.
A: No.

They all offer the same result. Choose to the stone you prefer and that's it! Considering that our mission is to promote geological heritage, we choose many stone to make sure people understood our mission but also allows them to really discover our geological heritage.
A: The soapstone is available in several regions of the world. This stones is also really easy to cut and transform it because it's a really soft stone. Those element makes this material cheap to manufacture. For these reasons, it has been widely marketed and and sold as Whisky Stone. It is however important to mention that it's a very porous stone and therefore it will absorb tastes & will be hard to wash totally.
A: we suggest amber spirits such as whiskey, scotch, bourbon, rye, brandy, cognac, armagnac port. The ideal temperature for tasting these alcohols ranges from 15 to 20 ° C. Knowing that our stones bring the liquid to this temperature, it is the perfect match!
A: We do not recommend it for the following reasons:

First Knowing that white wine is used at a temperature ranging from 4 to 8 ° C, our stones do not meet this need.

Regardind red wines, although some red wines like Bordeaux or Burgundies are drunk between 15 and 18 ° C, it is not customary to add cooling stones to your glass.

Finally, don't forget that your wine glasses are fragile. The contact between our rocks and the walls of wine glasses (often fine) do not mix well.
A: We recommend using 2 to 3 cubes in a High-fashionned glass to really transfer the cold and bring the liquid to the right temperature. You can put more. After that it will be a matter of taste since we don’t all have the same temperature sensitivity.
A: The flat bottom glass, Old Fashioned type, is your best option. At the walls, choose the medium thick ones.
A: You should know that in Quebec, like everywhere else, many stones are not mined or used for production. A very few people know how to transform and used them.

Thanks to our geological knowledge and in product design, we decided to introduce you to three types of stones that are little known to the general public.
A: Yes! The stone we extract is incredibly in important quantity in our territory. In addition, we extract our stones directly on natural small wall of stoned and therefore we choose to extract only the rock on the surface.

To give you an overview of the quantity of rock available versus what we extract, here is a calculation:

13,000,000,000,000 (cm3) / 94.8 (cm3) = 137 130 801 687 set of 6 available with only 1 m of rock thickness *

To make it simple, we could create 137 billion rock kits with 6 cubes * per kit! * Based on information from CIGEUM.
A: Yes! We use engineered wood *. In doing so, it can go to the freezer. As the stones only take half an hour to cool, there is no need to store it there.

If you want to, don't worry. At this time, be sure to take it out from time to time to allow it to air out. Remember, after all, this is a natural material that needs to breathe!

* Engineered wood is wood that is dried, planed (level and look) and glued. Hyper resistant and stable, we are far from the reconstituted wooden board.
A: It is so that the cold transfers to the stone more quickly once they are placed in the freezer. This is one of the reasons that allows the stone to cool in just 30 minutes.
A: You only have to rinse them with lukewarm water between each use. From time to time, rinse them with a little dish soap.

We advise you not to always leave them in the freezer in order to ventilate them.

As for the case, just coat it with odorless mineral oil for wood.

In short, maintenance is very simple!
A: No! This should not happen unless you shake them very hard. We suggest you opt for glasses with medium thick walls. The rocks should be gently placed in your glass. Ideally, try not to drop them on ceramic or concrete. They could break.
A: None! The stones have been there for 940 million and 2.5 billion years. We are pretty sure they will die after us! And that's why we opted for a sleek design. A timeless design that we hope will live as long as our stones!
A: Generally almost all the walnut came from the United States. Although walnut is found in the Appalachians and Ontario, this wood grows in large quantities in our neighbors to the south.

Respecting nature and producing responsibly, we mainly use wood scraps from factories producing wooden planks.
A: No! Precisely we use Gabbro, Dark Granulite and Gneiss at Hornblende because their thermal capacity are the most suitable for chilling whisky regarding the size we select for our stones. These stones are also less porous than marble, which makes them more suitable for this specific use.
A: At Lithologie, we have not tested this. We strongly recommend that you use our Whiskey stones when cooling all types of amber spirits.
A: Oh yes! Our mission is to make you know the geological heritage of Quebec through quality consumer products.
